Another Disappointing Season

The Michigan Wolverines seemed destined to play in the NCAA Tournament this season. They beat Michigan State and then Wisconsin early in the season, making it the first time since 1994 that they had beaten two ranked teams in consecutive games. They were also ranked for the first time since 1998. However, they were unable to continue their strong play. They fell apart and lost a number of games. It seemed that they had gotten back into the tournament by beating highly ranked Illinois but they lost their final two games. The Wolverines were not selected to go to the big dance and they will have to play in the NIT tournament again.

Michigan really let themselves down. They had a lot of talent this year and they were fully capable of making it into the tournament. This team can never seem to put an entire season together. I think their biggest problem was not being able to win on the road. All three of their wins against ranked opponents were home games. Michigan lost most of their road games by a large margin which contributed to their mediocre 8-8 Big Ten record. As the old saying goes, "There is always next year", to bad this was probably was "Michigan's year".
