Redwings 3 Blues 2

The Detroit Red Wings clinched the Presidents' Trophy with a 3-2 victory tonight over the Blues. They now have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. It is nice that the Wings got home ice advantage, but it only matters if the Wings play in a 7 game playoff series. The Wings played well in this game. Marc L. made just his third career start. He stopped 25/27 shots. Chris C. added 2 assists. Boyd D. and Steve Thomas scored the Wings' first 2 goals. With the scored tied 2-2 Ray Whitney scored his 14th goal to give the Wings a 3-2 lead late in the second period. For the rest of the game Detroit shutdown St. Louis and prevented them from scoring any more goals. Detroit was limited to a season-low 12 shots, but scored on 3 of the first 8 shots against former Redwing goalie Chris Osgood. The Wings ended the Blues' 4 game winning streak. The Blues missed a chance to clinch their 25th straight playoff berth, which would extend the longest current streak in professional sports. Instead, the loss put them in a three-way tie with the Oilers and Predators for seventh in the Western Conference with only 2 games to go.
